【摘要】:LDDanalysiscanbeanindicatoroftheadequacyofthecontrolandsecurityexercisedovertheassetsinthepossessionoforunderthecognizanceofacompany,agencyorinstitution.ExcessiveLDDcanindicateweaknessesinawarenessofcontrolprocesses,physicalsecurity,procedures,andthelike.LDDcreatesconcernsregardingeffectivenessandefficiencyindicatinganegativeimpactonprofitabilityormission.ExcessiveLDDincreasesrisk,andindicatesatleastapotential,ifnotreal,weaknessinproceduresprocesses,andcontrol.1.1Thispracticecoverstheassessmentofloss,damage,anddestruction(LDD)ofproperty,assets,ormaterial.LDDoccurswhensuchpropertyisfoundtobemissing,damaged,ordestroyed.Suchdiscoveriesoftenaremadeasaresultofaphysicalinventory,ananalysisofmaterialused,orroutineaudits.1.2Someoccurrencesofdamageanddestructionaretheresultofnaturaldisastersorotherincidentsbeyondthecontrolofthecompany,agency,orinstitution,andarenotsubjecttothestandardsinparagraph7.However,thereportingofsuchinstancesinaccordancewithparagraph8isstillrequired.1.3SomeoccurrencesofLDDarearesultofnaturaldegradationorotherincidentsoffairwearandtearandarenotaddressedasapartofthispractice.1.4Loss,damageanddestruction,whilethreecompletelydifferentoccurrences,areaddressedasoneinthisstandard.Forthepurposeofthisstandard,reportingandevaluatingloss,damageanddestructionarethesame.1.5Loss,damageanddestructionarekeyaspectsofriskmanagement.ProjectingthepossibilityorprobabilityofLDD,reportingandmanaging,andminimizingLDDisacriticalandeconomicfactorinthesuccessofanyendeavor.
